Abstract

The word ‘religion’ signifies a system of faith and faith related activity. The essence of all religions culminates into development of humanity, which revolves around the development of certain values. These values as Albert Einstein said, ultimately “liberate mankind as far as possible from the bondage of egocentric cravings, desires, and fears, scientific reasoning can aid religion in yet another sense.†Righteousness and forbearance in Hinduism, non-violence in Jainism, compassion in Buddhism, unity in Zoroastrianism, service with love in Christianity, fraternity in Islam and valour in Sikhism are all complementary to each other. Though these values become the priority of their respective religions, they fall within the scope of ‘dharma’ in Indian concept because the latter signifies adoption of goodness. This goodness is the outcome of pure spirituality.
