Abstract

The post-genomic era has witnessed a major change in the way we study genetic diseases. The classical disease-to-gene approach is being increasingly replaced by the genes-to-disease approach, making a beginning from the complete genome sequence. In the present article, we undertake a brief survey of two possible areas where the draft genome sequence can accelerate our understanding of the molecular mechanism of human inherited diseases. One relates to neurodegenerative disorders and the other to cancer.
