Scientometrics : A Science Administration Tool

Abstract

Scientometrics is used for measuring the progress and growth of science, mapping the structure and development of scientific field, creating the scientometric profiles of researchers, organizations, or nations involved in scientific activities. The focus of this paper is the use of scientometrics as tool for decision making. The concept, techniques and tools for scientometrics; its applications and uses in general are briefly discussed. It also focuses the role of scientometric reports in an organization for measuring the scientific contributions, its impact, creating the trend reports, and finding the leaders, competitor or potential collaborator in the research field. It also shares the hand-on experience of scientometrics including the different data-sources available, methods of data collection, computer- based tools for data analysis and charting.
