Innovative Best Practices of Dr. G.S. Government Women’s First Grade College Library: An Overview

The paper explains the concept of innovative best practices in the library of Dr. G. S. Govt. Women’s First Grade College, Udupi. Best practices are nothing but developing tailor- made services, reaching beyond with available resources and delighting the customers. Customer satisfaction and service quality have so far been evaluated mostly from a local perspective although the quality element has been firmly established in academic library management for at least a decade. Library is the fulcrum of support for the entire range of academic activities on an educational campus. Library is a learning laboratory where critical thinking and problem-solving skills are acquired. The important three factors behind the change are - changes in literary habits, changes in students and the curriculum and changes in the technological infrastructure. Library and information centres of academic institutions play a central role in enhancing the excellence/quality of academic and research environment. The paper also explains the vision and mission of the library. Collection, staff, library environment and other infrastructure are indispensable assets of any library especially in an academic library.
