Abstract

The term „ com petency‟ had now becom e parallel to technological com petency in library and inf orm ation science. A person w ho is com petent in a particular environm ent m ay not be com petent everyw here. This is due to th e changing needs and grow ing technologies. With out ICT skills the librarians of the present day struggle to exist because the convergence of technology in to libraries brought changes in the user‟s attitude and approach. How ever this situation is going to escalate further as the society is now becoming ICT literate and know ledge driv en. As the technologies are f ast changing, th e personnel should be up to up- to- date about th e changes happening around his environm ent. This article exam ines skills and competencies required f or th e ICT professionals in th e contemporary and various aspects of competencies.
