Abstract

Diet surveys carried out by Belavady and Shankar have revealed that the food intake of nursing mothers are low in calories, protein and calcium. A high incidence of anaemia, deficiency of vitamin B complex and hypoproteinemia have been reported among Indian mothers by Das Gupta, Rao et al and Subrahmanyam et al.
