Abstract

Optimum athletic performance is a function of efficient physiological adaptations in addition to physical characteristics which differ with the type of sport. High aerobic capacity (VO2 max), ventilation, improved ability to delay the onset of fatigue and predominance of slow twitch fibres are prerequisites for success in endurance performance.
