Dietary Counselling in Caries Prevention
Jump To References Section
Abstract
Dental caries is an infectious, microbiological disease that results in localized dissolution and destruction of the calcified tissues of the teeth. Dental caries is a multifactorial disease requiring the presence of a susceptible host, cariogenic microflora, and a diet conducive to enamel demineralization. It is a disease that dates back to antiquity and occurs in populations that have never used sugar or processed foods. Dental caries is considered a disease of modem civilization, since prehistoric man rarely suffered from this form of tooth destruction.Downloads
