Traditionally fish farmers are using neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves in treating fin rot diseases. The present work intends to verify the efficacy of this age old practice of the fish farmers. The diseased Puntius sophore fish were treated with different concentrations (0.5 ml/l to 3.5 ml/l) of neem leaves extract in increasing array (i.e, 0.5 ml/l, 1.0 ml/l, 1.5 ml/l, 2.0 ml/l, 2.5 ml/l, 3.0 ml/l and then 3.5 ml/l sequentially) at an interval of 24 hrs. The fish under treatment show improvement but the best result was observed when fish were treated with the dose of 3 ml/l. for one day. The present finding validates the usefulness of application of neem leaves in treating fin rot disease of fishes.Downloads
