A Comparative Study of Germination of Paddy Seeds (Var. Wgl-20471) Collected from Basanti Block of Sundarban Region, West Bengal

Abstract
Paddy seeds var. WGL-20471 (both certified and truthfully labeled) were collected from different dealer shops of Basanti Block of South 24 Parganas during December, 2010 to test the germination percentage. According to Indian Seed Act, 1966 the minimum germination percentage of paddy seeds are as follows : Paddy Crops-Foundation seed (F)-85%; Certified seed (C)-85%; Truthfully Labelled seed (TL)-nil. Germination test of paddy seeds was done by Rolled Towel Test method. Two wet towels were placed on a smooth table top. One hundred seeds were placed on the upper surface of the towels and covered by two wet towels. A fold was made at the bottom of the towel to prevent the seeds from falling out.Downloads
