Consumption Pattern of Meat and Eggs in a Rural Area
Jump To References Section
Abstract
Animal products are the traditional food products consumed by man and in the modern balanced diet concept animal proteins are of much value in supplementing the vegetable proteins. Altschul has suggested that diets that contain an average of less than 15g animal protein per day poses the near certainty of protein malnutrition for part of the population. The recommended allowance for flesh food and eggs is 60g per person per day, while the per capita animal protein consumption in India is only 5.2g. Surveys were conducted in the past on the dietary intake of urban people, rural people and on the differences in the dietary patterns between the urban and rural groups. But no report is available on the consumption pattern of meat and eggs in villages and their preference for these foods. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the consumption pattern of meat and eggs in a rural area.Downloads
