Abstract

Uncontrolled alcohal consumption ranks among the world's major public health problems'. Cirrhosis of the liver can be an important consequence of prolonged drinking and has often been used as an index of the magnitude of alcohol problems. In the last twenty years alcohol consumption has markedly increased and is still Increasing in countries all over the world.
