Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases have now emerged as the number one kliler in indla. A six foid increase in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases is seen in urban India In the last five decades and a doubling in the prevalence Is seen In rural India In the last three decades', The risk factors of cardiovascular diseases are also on the rise as evidenced by a number of community surveys, in different regions of India, The number of 'hypertensive' Individuals Is expected to raise from 118 million In 2000 to 214 million in 2025 worldwide.
