Abstract

Free radicals are generated in smali quantities in the body as a result of oxidation of nutrients. The excessive production of free radicals leads to number of clinical conditions. A disturbance in the balance between the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and antioxidant defense mechanisms causes oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is considered to be one of the links between diabetes and its complications. An increase in oxidative stress may contribute to the development of oxidative protein damage in diabetic patients.
