Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a silent disease and is now recognised as one of the fastest growing threats to public health in almost all countries of the world. Around 150 million people suffer from diabetes in the world out of which above 35 million are Indians, the highest number in any country. Diabetes is a heterogenous syndrome characterized by absolute or relative impairment of insulin secretion and action.
