Abstract

The commercialization of agriculture through water security is a cornerstone of economic development in many developing countries. Proponents of strategies advocating an emphasis on commercial crops view this as a means of generating and saving foreign exchange, increasing incomes of the rural farmers, providing employment for the landless and stimulating growth linkages with other segments of the economy.
