Abstract
The Food Policy Report 2020 Vision authored by per-Pinstrup Anderson and his colleagues at IFPRI using IMPACT simulations has predicted that about 2800 k.calories per day per person will be available in the developing countries by 2020 an increase of about 9 per cent over 1995. Yet 135 million children under five years of age will be malnourished in 2020, as against 160 million in 1995. As against 25 per cent malnourished children in the developing world, this number in South Asia will be as high as 40 per cent. Among the developing countries, 830 million people will still lack access to sufficient food. South Asia will be one of the hot spots of child malnutrition next food insecurity next only to sub Saharan South Africa.Downloads
