Effect of Different Dietary Fats on Carbohydrate Metabolism
Jump To References Section
Abstract
Whitney and Roberts, Samuels et al and others have reported that rats on a high fat diet generally have a higher blood sugar than rats on a high carbohydrate diet. The results of various workers indicated increased fasting glucose levels in men placed on a high fat diet. It has been shown that adaptation to fat feeding induced a slower rate of disappearance of blood sugar and a relatively low sensitivity to insulin. In vitro studies on isolated rat diaphragms from fat fed animals also showed the decreased glucose uptake coupled with an increased pyruvate and lactate formation.Downloads
