On Spin Representations

Abstract

E. CABTAN constructed "spin representations" over the complex numbers. Chevalley [2] observed that Cartan's construction can be carried out for a quadratic form of maximal index over an arbitrary ground field k. In this case the representations turn out to be rational over k.
