By taking a form of Lagrange's equations of motion, Jones [1] studied unsteady, non-homentropic flow of a polytropic gas in one dimension. He found an exact solution representing progressive waves and applied it to the problem of a shock advancing into a region in which the pressure was constant but density and so the temperature varied according to a simple power law.Downloads
