An Application of Morse Theory to Certain Symmetric Spaces1

Abstract

In [3], T. T. Frankel has applied Morse theory to the classical groups (i.e., SO(n), U(n); Sp(n)) and related the Poincare polynomials of these groups to those of the Grassmannians (i.e., real G_n, _k, complex W_n, _k, quaternionic Q_n,_k).
