Flexion in Polar Coordinates

Abstract

The conditions for concavity or convexityin polar coordinates as given in Text books are misleading. The statement ' that a curve is concave or convex according as the expression (u+d²u/dθ²) positive or negative ' requires modification when the sign of the radius vector is taken into account.
