Abstract
Poor Indian diets based on different cereals and millets are deficient in certain dietary essentials such as proteins, certain minerals and vitamins and hence they do not promote optimal growth of rats.. In an earlier paper, Kuppuswamy et al reported that incorporation of 12.5% of Indian Multipurpose Food (based on 3 1 blend of groundnut flour and Bengalgram flour and fortified with calcium salts and certain vitamins) in poor Indian diets brought about a marked improvement in the nutritive value of the diets as judged by the growth of rats.
